OUGD104 ....End of Module Self Evaluation.

1.  What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?

Through this module I have gained knowledge of type and grid, something which I feel will benefit me greatly later in the course. I have also learnt a lot about colour theory; this knowledge I am already using within my work but would like to explore it in more depth. The 'what is a line' brief allowed me to get back to basics and have some fun putting pen to paper, as this is something I truly enjoy however don't seem to get much time to do so. I also did a lot of mixed media work within this brief; again, an aspect of my work i'd like to produce more of.

2. What approaches to/methods of research have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?

I have used a broad range of research techniques within this module, both primary and secondary, which has given my work strong context. I feel I have perhaps used the library books a lot more within this brief in comparison to any of the others, which has given me fresh inspiration and a lot more scope for thought.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?

From the 'what is a line' brief I have realised how much I enjoy the hands on crafting and how effective it can be; it also seems to give your work a lot more value due to it being evident the sheer amount of time that has gone into it. This is definitely an aspect of design that I want to incorporate into my work a lot more and not just jump on the computer straight after every briefing!

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these more fully?

I don't feel that I have fully engaged with this brief until nearer the end of the module when it came to 'what is a line'. Although it has been a long brief mostly in workshops spread across the year, I feel I could have pushed it further; researching into colour theory etc.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?
  • Continue workshop tasks in my own time, this will help me gainer a deeper understanding of what I am learning and, in turn, help me to produce work to a higher standard.
  • Document my work more frequently.
  • Do more primary research.
  • Blog straight after each session.
  • Manage my time more efficiently.
