Our group tutorial with John today was highly informative and has helped me in envisaging the next steps in need to take in order to get myself out there.
Firstly, we discussed the CREATIVE CV:
//Image? Photographic? Journal? Printed t-shirts? Infographics? Write on wall and photograph?
//Printed final piece; fold up ...post letter (handwritten)
//'This is me'
//Tell the what your skills are and SHOW THEM OFF through choice of design etc.
//BUSINESS CARDS (x50) ...who you are, what you do (typographic acrobat??), how to contact you (skype) ...single sided (write on other side...scribble a note when leave it?)
//Moo ..print business cards (appx. £10/50 prints)
//It is a visual image of self
//Ensure spelling and grammar is correct
//Address correctly (to right person ...spell their name correct too)
//FUN
//Shop window ...they will ask for your work after.
//CONTACTING PROFESSIONALS
//Tell them why you like what they are doing
//PLAN what you are going to say (write list) and DOCUMENT it after
//What do you want to know?
//It's all about YOU!
//How do you make contact (phone, email, post)
//Check the studio's website
//Sell yourself as a product (skill, personality, high intelligence)
//Tell what: you are there
//Ask to be shown around studio ...can pop in for 5/10 mins
//Question them ..show interest
//Give business card and leave creative CV
//NEVER ASK ABOUT PLACEMENTS ON FIRST POINT OF CONTACT ..approach later, tell them you've been to see studio
//FOLLOW UP
//Ask about companies producing similar work
Actions to be taken:
//Design business cards and print 50 (by December)
//Blog studios that interest me
//Look on Coroflot.com
//Research creative CV
//Design own creative CV
//Consider my creative attributes ...how I want to 'sell' myself
